In the mythical kingdom of Florin, farm boy Westley leaves his true love, Buttercup, to make his fortune. Unfortunately, his ship is beset by pirates, which leads to news that he is dead. After five years, Buttercup is forced to marry Prince Humperdinck, who intends to have her kidnapped and murdered in order to strengthen his power. With the help of a knight (Mandy Patankin) and a giant (André the Giant) Buttercup is rescued by a mysterious pirate who turns out to be Westley, but they must face numerous obstacles before they can live happily ever after.
