Black Arts Movement: Examined Part V – Theater

In Part V of their groundbreaking series, Black Arts Movement: Examined, Harlem Stage presents excerpted readings of Adrienne Kennedy’s Funnyhouse of a Negro, a riveting play written during the Black Arts Movement. Tony Award-winning actress Trezana Beverley, and actors Stephanie Berry and Toussaint Jeanlouis will read excerpts that will be interspersed with conversations with National Black Theatre’s Executive Artistic Director, Jonathan McCrory, award-winning theater director, Woodie King Jr., and Harlem Stage Associate Artistic Director and Curator-in-Residence, Carl Hancock Rux, providing further context on the impact of the work and its relationship to the movement.
