Call for submissions: 10th Uptown Arts Stroll Anniversary – poster contest

The Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) is pleased to announce the Uptown Arts Stroll 2013 — an annual arts festival featuring more than 100 arts and cultural events across Washington Heights and Inwood during the month of June.

This year, we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Uptown Arts Stroll. As part of this celebration, we will reflect on the Stroll beginnings and history, and the accomplishments of the diverse arts community in Washington Heights and Inwood.

To that end, for this year’s submissions for the poster contest, artists are asked to incorporate into their proposed art work the following elements:

  1. The contributions of the Uptown Arts Stroll and NoMAA to the development of the uptown arts and cultural community.
  2. Northern Manhattan’s dynamic and diverse arts and culture scene.
  3. A design that includes “10th Uptown Arts Stroll Anniversary” as the tagline.

Eligibility

The artist must reside within the generally recognized boundaries of Washington Heights or Inwood (Manhattan, north of 155th Street, river to river), and may submit only one (1) image for consideration.

Submission Requirements

Each entry must be emailed no later than Thursday 28 March 2013 by 5:00 p.m. EST to and include:

  • artist’s full name (first and last),
  • artist’s brief bio or artist statement,
  • address, phone number and e-mail.

The image for the poster contest must be a high-resolution (300 dpi only) JPG or PDF file.

Finalist and Winner Selection

A panel of distinguished judges, drawn from the local arts community, will select five finalists. Consideration will be given to eye-catching, original and unpublished images that incorporate the following elements:

  1. The contributions of the Uptown Arts Stroll and NoMAA to the development of the uptown arts and cultural community.
  2. Northern Manhattan’s dynamic and diverse arts and culture scene.
  3. A design that includes “10th Uptown Arts Stroll Anniversary” as the tagline.

FINALISTS AGREE TO:

Bring a hard copy of the image, on paper or board no larger than 9 x 12 in., to exhibit at the NoMAA Artists’ Salon, where the winning image will be selected by community vote.

In addition, the finalist agrees that his/her image be utilized via social media to promote community vote for the poster at the NoMAA Artists’ Salon.

THE WINNER AGREES THAT:

The selected image will be used in the poster that will represent and promote the Uptown Arts Stroll 2013 as well as in other publications.

NoMAA will be responsible for the additional text such as dates, contact information, etc., and should be able to use the image for publications with the following dimensions:

  • Poster: 11 x 17 in.
  • Brochure: 6 x 10¾ in.
  • Postcard: 5½ x 8½ in.
  • Other marketing materials as necessary
  • Allow for full color and B&W reproduction

GRAND PRIZE:

  • $500 honorarium
  • Exclusive graphic representation of the 10th Uptown Arts Stroll Anniversary
