Open Call for Artist 2024
KAF is seeking innovative, engaging, and compelling proposals from emerging or traditionally marginalized interventionist artists to create a new critical work of participatory art for the 2024-2025 Shared Dialogue, Shared Space (SDSS) project. The deadline for the proposal submission is Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:59 pm EST. The artists invited to the 2024 SDSS will be announced in December 2023.
The 2024 SDSS will be an inspiring outdoor series of people’s art events, tentatively scheduled for four Saturdays at public parks in Woodside and Flushing, Queens, in the Spring; Mott Haven, the Bronx, in the Summer; and Inwood, Manhattan, in the Fall, with the possibility of including more areas and days.
Proposal Components
1. A one-page art project proposal describing objectives, goals, purpose, action(s), timelines, anticipated outputs, and benefits. Please briefly share the proposal’s relevance in advancing your art perspective, the communities you intend to work with, and your contribution to the visual arts discipline.
2. One-page abbreviated CV with contact information of address, phone number, and email, highlighting the artist’s capacity to create the proposed work.
3. An itemized budget presenting reasonable necessary expenses, including an artist fee, material, and production costs. Minimum support of $4,000 is committed to each project. The maximum project support is subject to funding and will be announced during the year.
4. Up to five still images of past work samples related to the proposal. Please place one image per page with the caption, including the work’s title, year, medium, dimensions, and any credits if applicable. You may also include a one- or two-sentence description, explaining the relationship of the work to your proposal. For videos, please submit up to three three-minute videos supporting your proposal. Use third-party providers’ unlocked URLs, such as on YouTube or Vimeo, and include video captions and blurbs.
