The Uptown arts community came out en masse on Thursday, June 30 to collectively celebrate the closing of the 20th Uptown Arts Stroll at the historic United Palace. Attendees were treated to a rousing flamenco performance, the opening of the searing art exhibit Creating Home: Immigrant Perspectives as well as an actual Arts Stroll around the United Palace to take in a slice of Andrea Arroyo’s multi-site Art As Solidarity public art installation.

🚨Uptown Today: 175th Greenmarket Opens 🚨
On Thursdays, starting today until November 17, the stretch of 175th Street between Wadsworth and Broadway is transformed into a bustling marketplace overflowing with fresh local fruits and vegetables. Neighbors show up in droves to mix and mingle with one another while purchasing produce, Mexican specialty products and bread, pies and scones made with local flour; school groups and other community organizations frequently visit the market which doubles as classroom and social center.

Rising in the Heights is a festival of free monthly outdoor public arts performances curated by Leadlights Ensemble in partnership with Word Up Community Bookshop. The festival celebrates the rich artistic contributions of Latinx and Black cultures and promotes children’s literacy through music and storytelling.
Rising in the Heights (feat. Rachel Harrington) takes place tomorrow, Wednesday, June 29 at 5 pm at Word Up Books.

Uptown Today: Dance Movement Workshop
For this event BodyStories faculty will lead and teach some awesome dance sessions! BodyStories faculty members Sabrina Petrelli and Teresa Fellion will lead brief Latin Dance, Jazz, and Zumba dance sessions. We will be creating and teaching a fun and engaging dance class for all ages and all levels – kids through senior citizens. Everyone is welcome! This will encourage connection within the community and give a chance to move together in an enjoyable, fun, and healthy way. It all goes down today, Monday, June 27 from 7 to 8 pm at Dyckman St and Payson Ave.
