Presentación: El agua viene de noche con Guillermo Severiche en conversación con Nadia Villafuerte

Únase a nosotros para la presentación de la primera novela del autor argentino Guillermo Severiche, El agua viene de noche, una novela de formación que explora la familia, la agitación política y el descubrimiento sexual. Severiche estará en conversación con la escritora mexicana Nadia Villafuerte, autora del libro ¿Te gusta el látex, cielo? Habrá lecturas de fragmentos del libro y una animada sesión de preguntas y respuestas con la audiencia.

El evento es gratuito y se llevará a cabo en español. El púbilco debe estar vacunado y usar mascarilla. El evento tiene un límite de 20 personas.

Join us for the book presentation with Argentine writer Guillermo Severiche and his debut novel El agua viene de noche, a coming-of-age story that explores family, political turmoil, and sexual discovery. Severiche will be in conversation with Mexican writer Nadia Villafuerte, author of the book ¿Te gusta el látex, cielo? There will be readings of excerpts and a lively Q&A with the audience.

The event is free and held in Spanish. Attendees must be vaccinated and masked. Event limited to 20 people.

SOBRE LOS AUTORES

Guillermo Severiche (1986), cursó la carrera de Letras en la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (Mendoza, Argentina) y el doctorado en Literatura Comparada en Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA). Reside en Nueva York desde 2016, después de ser becario y completar el MFA en Escritura Creativa en New York University. Ha publicado textos de ficción y no ficción en Revista Carajo, Egg & Pan, Revista Penúltima, 80Grados, Temporales y Los Bárbaros. Sus obras de teatro han obtenido lecturas dramatizadas en Nueva York, Orlando y Madrid. En 2021 recibió el primer premio del Concurso de Dramaturgia Escena Abierta con su obra Vos. Es el fundador de la serie de lecturas y talleres EN CONSTRUCCIÓN New Works by Latin American Writers. Actualmente, trabaja como profesor en Fordham University (Lincoln Center) en el Departamento de Lenguas y Literaturas Modernas. También se desempeña como manager literario en IATI Theater en el East Village de Manhattan.

Nadia Villafuerte (México, 1978) es una escritora de ficción que ha publicado dos libros de cuentos: Barcos en Houston (2005) y ¿Te gusta el látex, cielo? (2008), y la novela Por el lado salvaje (2011). Está incluida en las antologías México 20: New Voices, Old Traditions (Pushkin Press, 2015), Palabras mayores, nueva narrativa mexicana (Malpaso Ediciones, 2015), y más recientemente en las revistas World Literature Today, Latin American Literature Today, entre otros.

SOBRE El Agua Viene De Noche

El agua viene de noche y arrasa con todo: las casas, las calles, la vida de quienes habitan el barrio. Queda, en cambio, la basura; montañas que desprenden un olor que todo lo impregna. En esta novela de aprendizaje, la inundación habla también de los otros peligros, los invisibles:

“Otra vez la misma urgencia: es ahora, va a venir. Se quedó tieso, mirando a su hermana que seguía pendiente del teléfono, dando vueltas. Ahora. Está por llegar, se va a levantar. Acordate lo que te dijeron: andá, escapate lejos, no mirés atrás ni escuchés a nadie, entrá a la plaza y seguí. Una luz lo interrumpió. Luego, el relámpago que se rompía a la distancia.”

Atilio, protagonista de esta historia, traza su voz junto a la de otros personajes que irán abriéndose paso, al igual que él, entre los escombros, la tierra y los restos de un mundo conocido que, poco a poco, se desarma.

Word Up Community Safety Guidelines

  • All children and adults ages 5 and older are required to have proof of vaccination for indoor event venues in NYC, including those hosted by Word Up Community Bookshop. They must show proof they have received two vaccine doses, except for those who have received the one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
  • People 18 and older are also required to show identification along with their proof of vaccination.
  • All attendees ages 2 and older must wear a mask at all times when indoors at the store and during events at Word Up and Recirculation.

CODE OF CONDUCT: Please note Word Up has a zero tolerance policy for harassment or intimidation of any kind during any event, virtual or in-person. Please read our Safe Space Policy for more information. Anyone violating these rules will be expelled from the event at the discretion of the organizers. PHYSICAL ACCESSIBILITY: Word Up Community Bookshop/Librería Comunitaria is a fully wheelchair-accessible space with one ADA-compliant ramp from the street level to the store. Some of our bookcases and tables are on wheels and can be moved to provide additional access. Our visitor bathroom is wheelchair accessible and gender neutral. Our events are mic’d for sound. Free ASL interpretation is available for most programs upon request; please email events@wordupbooks.com to request interpretation as early as possible. The space is not scent or chemical free but we do our best to minimize the use of chemicals and scents throughout the space and use nontoxic materials whenever possible.
