Cathy O’Keefe
Cathy O’Keefe is a visual artist from New York City. She is self-taught and has a long background in working with a variety of media. Currently, Cathy paints extensively in oils and creates compositions with paper that include monotypes and multimedia. She is influenced primarily by the abstract expressionists from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. She exhibits primarily on the eastern seaboard and her paintings are in a variety of private and public collections.
Cathy’s love for New York City is evident in many of her paintings, exploring the natural and industrial worlds. She uses color dynamically to express conceptions of light. All her work is full of energy and movement. The colors are bright and vivid, expressing interpretations of what she sees and feels about a given subject. Cathy internalizes and transforms things from the real world, but also brings forth imagery from strictly inner sources. She creates with excitement and her works exude joy.
