Limón Dance Company

Limón Dance Company, returns to City College’s Aaron Davis Hall for our annual community season, allowing us to engage with our West Harlem neighbors. The program will feature José Limón’s moving tribute to Isadora Duncan in Dances for Isadora, and a revitalization of his iconic work, A Choreographic Offering, a memorial bouquet to his mentor and modern dance pioneer, Doris Humphrey. For these performances, the Company will be joined by members of Limón2, highlighting our commitment to educating and integrating the next generation of artists through the Limón Institute.

This exciting program is also the second part of a multi-city collaboration with one of Florida’s leading contemporary dance companies DanceNow! Miami, founded in 2000 by Artistic Directors Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini. This collaboration deepens our ties with DNM, who annually license Limón works, and work closely with Limón’s protege, Dr. Daniel Lewis. DanceNow! Miami will be performing their work Anusim, what is hidden is never lost, and the two companies will perform Limón’s final work The Waldstein Sonata together. Three years after Limón’s death, Lewis was asked to complete Limón’s final and unfinished work, The Waldstein Sonata. It is Limón’s breathtaking homage to Beethoven and Lewis’ monumental tribute to Limón.

The event is finished.
