NoMAA Technical Assistance Workshops – Uptown Arts Stroll 2014

The following NoMAA Technical Assistance Workshops are being offered during the Uptown Arts Stroll 2014.


Travel Photography

This workshop teaches the basics of travel photography, in a park that is visited by tourists from around the world. Learn tips and tricks, camera and flash settings, composition and lighting, using the NYC Scenic Landmark Fort Tryon Park as your travel destination. Bring your camera and flash. Led by Upper Manhattan photographer Michael Palma. In partnership with Fort Tryon Park Trust.

Date: Monday 2 June 2014, 6–8 p.m.
Location: Fort Tryon Park. Enter the park at Margaret Corbin Circle and meet up at the Heather Garden entrance/Stan Michels Promenade.

Artists @ Work

This workshop will cover essential professional practices for artists of all disciplines. Topics include career development, branding, marketing and an overview of artists’ opportunities.  There will be time for Q&A to address your individual needs. This workshop is appropriate for emerging and mid-career artists of all disciplines. Led by Artist and Curator Andrea Arroyo.

Support for Artists: A Resources and Services Workshop

This workshop will cover strategies for sustaining your artistic practice, including free and low-cost services and programs offered by New York Foundation for the Art, as well as other resources for finding awards, residencies, services, and opportunities available to individual artists in New York and nationwide. Led by Toccarra A. Holmes Thomas, Program Associate, NYFA SOURCE.

Preparing Digital Images for Submission

In this workshop, participants will learn how to create great quality digital images needed for grants, websites, etc. Led by master printer Antoon Taghon.

Nervous about doing a presentation in front of a group? You are not alone. Learn the fundamental skills to become an effective public speaker. Led by Angel Vazquez, marketing manager at El Diario and adjunct professor at Hostos Community College.
