At Ease: Photographs by Military Veterans in New York presents the work of twenty-three veterans who participated in workshops with the Josephine Herrick Project from 2018 – 2022. For the photographers, the camera became a way of finding new avenues of self-expression and to relate to the world around them. Filtered through their experiences and seen through their lenses, New York—even at its most frenetic—becomes a place of peace. Images of home, of parks, of the streets, of loved ones, mix memory and metaphor. Present and past.
