La Tumba Francesa is an example of an “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,” as declared by UNESCO. Translated at “French drum” this Cuban dance has its origins in Haiti where enslaved people created a fusion of traditional West African dances and French 18th Century dances. Join choreographer and reconstructor with The New York Baroque Dance Company’s Catherine Turocy, as she shares the history and cultural revival of this unique dance tradition.
