Garry Grant Open Studio

Please join me in exploring my latest works of art from my studio.

In my artistic journey, a pivotal moment came while exploring the ancient city of Marrakesh, where I found inspiration in its textures, architecture, and deep cultural memory. This experience led me to develop a practice I call Ancestral Abstraction—a visual language that reimagines overlooked narratives within African heritage and invites reflection on identity, culture, and the human experience.

Rooted in deep historical research and emotional intuition, my work draws from nature, ancient civilizations, and the spiritual resilience of the Black diaspora. Through abstract forms, layered textures, and a bold use of color, I seek to challenge traditional perspectives and open space for new interpretations.

Storytelling is central to my process. Each piece serves as a vessel for hidden histories, amplifying silenced voices and honoring ancestral knowledge. I work with spontaneity and layered materials, allowing energy and movement to guide my compositions.

My goal is to create art that not only speaks to the past but also resonates with the present, sparking conversation, fostering connection, and encouraging deeper appreciation for the richness of African and diasporic narratives. My work is an invitation to engage with collective memory and the transformative power of visual storytelling.
