SUMMARY:OPEN CALL: A Chance To Exhibit Your Art At The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum This Spring!
DESCRIPTION:“The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum can be found sitting high above the corner of Broadway at 204th Street in Inwood. The Dutch Colonial style farmhouse was built on this site c. 1784. It was home to the Dyckman family for almost a century. It opened as a museum in 1916 and continues to serve the community in a half-acre park. It is an extraordinary reminder of early Manhattan and an important part of its diverse Inwood neighborhood.\nDyckman Farmhouse Museum, the last farmhouse in Manhattan, is a vital cultural asset in New York City. The mission of DFMA is to support the preservation of the historic site, to be a catalyst for engaging, adventuresome programming and to be a good neighbor and a dynamic resource for the community.\nTheme: Immigrant History, Culture, and/or Experience. \nWe invite you to explore a breadth of issues under this theme: personal or collective narratives, ancestral legacies, experiences of displacement, immigration rights, intergenerational resilience or violence, Diasporic identity politics, experiences as the child of immigrant parents, and/or the evolution of local immigrant communities. \nThrough this exhibition, the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum is committed to serving as a meaningful backdrop for these stories and its potential to foster community dialogue about migration, belonging, and cultural preservation across generations.\nThe selected artist will receive: – A dedicated space to install and exhibit their work at the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum from April through June 2025.– Support from DFM Staff and Interns with didactic text (exhibition labels and pamphlets printed on cardstock), and installation– A $2,500 honorarium. \nArtist Eligibility: Open to all artists who will be in New York City between April and June 2025 for the installation process. However, priority consideration will be given to Uptown-based and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) creatives. We strongly encourage artists from these communities to apply as we primarily aim to amplify diverse voices and perspectives at the Farmhouse. \nArtwork eligibility: All artistic mediums are welcome provided that the artwork can be installed without altering or damaging the existing structure of the Farmhouse. This includes avoiding any modifications such as drilling or nailing materials directly to the walls, ceilings, or floors of the Farmhouse.
