SUMMARY:“Using and Reusing: Giving An Artistic Life to Discarded Materials” with Artist Felipe Galindo Feggo
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with his exhibition Portraits of My Community, the artist Felipe Galindo Feggo invites the community to create a work of art using discarded materials. The artist will show how he has created some of his artworks and will provide supplies for you to create one. All you need is your creativity to participate in this fun workshop.\nEvent Info & Safety Requirements: This drop-in workshop will be held outside of Morris-Jumel Mansion on the bluestone patio. Masks must be worn by all participants at all times. Please dress for the season. No registration is required. In the event of rain or inclement weather, this workshop will occur on Sunday, November 7, from 1-2 PM.\nAbout the Exhibition: Portraits of My Community features a selection of mixed-media artworks portraying the people of Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood. The project celebrates the intertwining of cultures in Upper Manhattan neighborhoods, presenting a social commentary on the diversity, beauty, and resilience of longtime residents, newcomers, and immigrants. The artist re-purposes packaging materials ─ familiar objects we use and discard  ─  to reflect on environmental issues, while honoring the everyday life and joy in our communities. This exhibition will be on view during the museum’s public hours, Thursday to Sunday, 11:00 – 5:00pm. through January 2, 2022. Free admission to the exhibition is available by booking at this link.\n
