DESCRIPTION:The history of ice cream has deep ties to both New York and Presidential history, including some of the original attendees of the July 10th, 1790 dinner hosted at the Mansion by George Washington. Explore the history of ice cream in America and its ties to presidential history while enjoying scoops from Sugar Hill Creamery ( https://www.sugarhillcreamery.com/ ). Alexis Coe, author of The New York Times Best-Seller You Never Forget Your First: A Biography of George Washington, will present a talk on the animals at Mt. Vernon, including Washington’s dog “Sweetlips,” and cattle raised for cream to make foods, such as ice cream.\nThis event commemorates the dinner held at the Mansion on July 10th, 1790, attended by President George Washington and his wife Martha, Vice President John Adams and his wife Abigail, Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton and his wife Eliza, and other prominent cabinet members.\nAlexis will be available after the event to sign books and take additional questions. In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday, July 17th at 4:00pm.
