Call for proposals: Rockaway Barrier Beautification Project

The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation (Parks) is partnering with local civic organizations, the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Community Affairs Unit (CAU) of the New York City Office of the Mayor, NYC Service, and New York Cares to solicit ideas and volunteer support for an initiative to paint the jersey barriers which will be installed to protect pedestrians and bicyclists on Shore Front Parkway from Beach 74th to Beach 107th Streets, in Rockaway.

Interested artists are invited to submit design ideas for these painted barriers. Each selected artist will be assigned a site within a designated sub-section of barriers along Shore Front Parkway and will be responsible for producing stencils, translating the design, and overseeing the painting of the design onto the barriers. All barrier sites will be primed in advance. Volunteers will assist selected artists with mural production during the summer of 2013.

Proposal submission deadline: Wednesday 15 May 2013.
