Inspired by the world renowned El Sistema music program and led by Abreu Fellow David Gracia, the Washington Heights and Inwood (WHIN) Music Project will offer a 2-week intensive choral and orchestral program for children and youth in the community that will end with a final public performance.
Program Dates: 20 August – 1 September, Mon–Fri 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
All students admitted to the program will be in full scholarship. Although there is a $50 service/participation fee, no student will be turned away for economic reasons. There will be opportunities for parents to volunteer, for youngsters to be music mentors to younger students, and for local musicians to engage in the program. This summer program is the first step in establishing an El Sistema program in Northern Manhattan.
The program is supported by Our Saviour’s Atonement Lutheran Church, Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, Citizens Committee of New York City and individuals like you. Join to make the difference!
